Colorado issues its first licensed psilocybin healing center license to The Center Origin in Denver
Colorado's Natural Medicine Division, part of the state Department of Revenue, issued the state's first healing center license on 31 March 2025 to The Center Origin, a wellness centre at 1440 Blake Street in downtown Denver. The licence was the first operational approval under the regulated access framework created by Proposition 122, which Colorado voters passed in November 2022.
What the licence allows
Unlike a cannabis dispensary, a Colorado healing center cannot sell psilocybin for take-home use. Licensed facilitators administer psilocybin to adults aged 21 and over in supervised sessions that include preparation and integration meetings. Colorado's framework also created a lower-cost "micro-healing center" tier that lets existing therapy and wellness practices add psilocybin services without building a dedicated facility.
Context
The Center Origin's co-founder and chief executive, Elizabeth Cooke, opened the centre in 2023 offering yoga, massage, breathwork and reiki, with the stated aim of building a client base before psilocybin services became legal. At the time of licensing, the first sessions were delayed because licensed cultivators and testing labs had not yet brought product to market.
Colorado is the second US state after Oregon to operate a regulated psilocybin services program. Under state law, the program may expand to other natural psychedelics such as DMT, ibogaine and mescaline from June 2026.
